Whenever I travel as in a recent trip to Scotland, I become hyper aware or very present. A large part of it is out of necessity, navigating the airports (a whole education in itself), ground transportation, passports, currency, etc. But, more importantly my presence is so I don’t miss the experience, the people, locations, food and the pure joy of my travel partner, giggles music and the awareness of it all as it’s happening.
In our fast-paced world, it’s easy to move through life on autopilot checking boxes, chasing deadlines, glued to devices, and numbing out. But beneath the noise, your body, mind, and spirit are always communicating with you, that’s what we mean by holistic, the sum of all parts. Mindfulness is the tool that helps you listen and helps you be present. We're hurrying through life to get to the end without even realizing it and often missing the beauty in between.
At its core, mindfulness is the practice of paying full attention to the present moment, without judgment. But its benefits go far beyond just helping us “feel calm.” Mindfulness is a foundational pillar of holistic wellness, because it reconnects us to ourselves the divinity on every level.
Mindfulness for the Mind: Clarity, Resilience & Awareness
The mind is where most of our stress begins. Thoughts become worries, which snowball into anxiety, and before we know it, our nervous system is in overdrive. Mindfulness offers a way to pause, even when life can seem sometimes on overdrive. It creates space between a thought and your reaction. This space (the sweet spot) is where magical change happens.
