Consciousness, the Soul & the Journey Within

Consciousness,
the Soul & the Journey Within

What if there is more to our story than what we remember?

Have you ever met someone and felt an instant connection, as though you've known them forever?

Or visited a place for the very first time, yet something about it felt strangely familiar? That has been Scotland for me, oddly comfortable, and I return often, like I am going home.

Perhaps you've had a dream that seemed more like a memory. Or experienced a feeling you couldn't quite explain, one that didn't seem connected to anything happening in your life today.

I've always been curious about these experiences.

And the more I've explored the relationship between the mind, body, energy, and consciousness, the more fascinated I've become with one simple question:

What if there is more to who we are than the story we know about ourselves?

What Exactly Is Consciousness?

We often think of consciousness as simply being awake, aware, and able to think.

But consciousness is a much bigger conversation.

It's our awareness of ourselves and the world around us. It's the part of our experience that allows us to notice our thoughts, feel emotions, imagine possibilities, and recognize that we exist.

Neuroscience continues to explore how the brain, (only a tool), creates or supports conscious experience. Yet there are still unanswered questions about the nature of consciousness itself.

And this is where things become especially interesting to me.

Some spiritual traditions and philosophical perspectives suggest that consciousness may extend beyond our physical existence. That perhaps the brain doesn't create all of consciousness, but acts more like a receiver or an instrument through which we experience it.

This is a really intriguing possibility, not an established scientific fact.

But I love that we can remain curious about something without needing to have all the answers, because to date not even science has figured this one out!

And What About the Soul?

The soul is something different people understand in different ways.

For some, it's the spiritual essence of who we are. For others, it's the deepest part of ourselves, our inner wisdom, our sense of meaning, or that feeling of being connected to something greater.

Many spiritual traditions embrace the idea that the soul continues beyond a single lifetime.

Others see the soul as a beautiful way of describing the depth of our human experience.

I don't believe we need to agree on one definition to explore what the idea of the soul might mean to us personally.

What interests me most is how these ideas can open a doorway to greater self-awareness.

Because whether we view an experience as spiritual, symbolic, imaginative, or something we simply can't explain, it may still have something meaningful to teach us.

The Fascinating World of Past-Life Exploration

Through my training in past-life regression techniques with Dr. Brian Weiss, my certification as a hypnosis practitioner, and my years of studying mindfulness, energy work, and mind-body practices, I've become increasingly interested in the stories and images that can emerge when we quiet the analytical mind.

Dr. Weiss, a psychiatrist and author of Many Lives, Many Masters, helped bring past-life regression into wider public conversation through his work and experiences.

His approach invites people into a deeply relaxed, focused state where imagery, memories, feelings, and stories may begin to unfold.

Now, does this mean we're actually remembering another lifetime?

We don't know.

There isn't reliable scientific evidence one way or the other establishing that past-life experiences are literal memories of previous lives. Hypnosis and guided imagery can also produce vivid imagined experiences, and the mind can create stories that feel remarkably real.

But here's what I find so interesting.

An experience doesn't have to be proven to be a past life to hold personal meaning.

Perhaps a story reveals a familiar relationship pattern.

Maybe a feeling brings awareness to something we've been carrying.

Or perhaps an image helps us see a situation in our present life from an entirely different perspective.

And sometimes, the experience is simply beautiful, surprising, or wonderfully curious.

The Soul Journey

A Gentle Exploration of Consciousness, Imagery & Self-Discovery

All of this curiosity inspired me to bring back this offering into my practice.

It's a personal, guided experience that brings together the approaches I've studied over the years, including hypnotic relaxation, mindfulness, past-life-inspired imagery, and reflective mind-body coaching.

We begin by settling the body through gentle relaxation, breath awareness, and just a touch of therapeutic sound.

From there, I guide you into a comfortable, focused state of awareness, allowing your everyday thoughts to soften and your imagination to become more accessible.

You might find yourself imagining a landscape, a person, a place, or a story that feels as though it belongs to another time.

Or you might simply notice colors, sensations, emotions, or impressions.

You may experience something that feels like another lifetime.

Or something entirely different.

There is no right or wrong way to experience the journey.

And there's certainly no expectation that you must see a past life.

Throughout our time together, you remain able to communicate, share what you're noticing, and make choices about where you'd like to explore.

I'm simply there to gently guide the experience, without deciding what your images or impressions mean for you.

Where the Real Discovery Begins

One of my favorite parts of this work is what happens afterward.

We take time to reflect.

What stood out?

Was there a familiar feeling or recurring theme?

Did something in the experience remind you of a relationship, a challenge, or a pattern in your life today?

Did you discover something that invited you to see yourself differently?

This is where I bring in the coaching side of my practice.

Not to interpret your journey for you, but to help you explore what feels meaningful and how you might bring that awareness into your everyday life.

Maybe the Greatest Discovery Is Right Here in the Present

I love the idea that consciousness may be vast, perhaps even beyond what we currently understand.

But I also believe we don't have to travel beyond this lifetime to discover something meaningful.

Sometimes the greatest insight comes from simply giving ourselves permission to slow down, turn inward, and look at our lives from a different perspective.

Whether you see consciousness as something spiritual, biological, or still wonderfully mysterious, there is so much about being human that’s worth exploring.

And maybe that's where the real journey begins.

Not in finding all the answers.

But in becoming a little more curious about the questions.

Stay curious. Stay open. Stay mindfully connected.

Be Well, Donna
